Only FLIRTS do interact

April 2, 2007 waitngforcupid

Today was a sad day. They had put up the names for the new interactors and I hadn’t got chosen!!! I was so upset – and both my best friends got in! What do they have that I dont? I thought the interview went ok also – but then someone must have said something bad about me for sure. Anyway that teacher hates me – she must have cut my name from the list! I dont care anyway cos interact is obviously for losers. And I’m not one. Anyway all they do is make excuses to meet boys and hold stupid concerts and dance for stupid songs like stupid idiots!!!

Besides this “popular” interact club wants to do a joint project with us so obviously they didn’t want any pretty girls to meet any of the guys from that club. As if! I dont believe in flirting! Just cos they do they think that we are losers like them! Anyway the United Nations Club is better – at least its a REAL organisation! So I put my name for MUN. They are much cooler and nicer and they get to meet like the smartest people. So I’m happy – everything happens for the best!!!!!!

These interactors are so full of it.. they think that no one is as cool as them. Whatever!

u better not praise the UN Club as yet. who knows. maybe the teacher there might not like u either! might be wise to look beyond ur naivity and bite ur tongue.

  • 2. Iromi  |  April 2, 2007 at 1:28 pm

If Interact is for losers, then why did you try out in the first place??? =)

When I was in school Interact was a brilliant club and we did a lot of good work over the 5 years. I don’t know how things are now but I do recall everyone who didn’t get in say the same things you did.

Maybe you should try again next year ?

  • 3. sach  |  April 2, 2007 at 1:48 pm

um…this is going to be interesting if not anything else..i’m holding myself back from getting into an argument but can’t resist one question. If you are of the opinion that interact is for losers and if you don’t really care about it then,

Why did you want to join in the first place and why have you dedicated an entire blog post to it that screams of sour grapes?

    Just curious.

  • 4. Ranga  |  April 2, 2007 at 3:16 pm

    That’s outrageous!

I never knew that teachers get to choose the students in their Interact clubs.

I can look into this if you want. Send me the details of your school, and I’ll see to it that it gets reported.

Btw, flirtations are natural and healthy at your age, as long as they don’t go too far.

The meaning of Interact goes way beyond flirtations, and touch the areas of Community Service, Personal Development and International Understanding. In short, an Interact club will help you achieve things that wouldn’t be easily achieved if you were on your own.

At least that’s what the clubs are meant to do. But if you feel the United Nations is a more of an active club than Interact, then feel free to join them. It’s usually no point in arguing with school teachers and especially at your age convincing friends is not the easiest thing to do I guess.

well its obvious y u weren’t chosen…..’U'r too full of your self!…not them….i mean who would actually say that they r pretty!!!!
And if its just for flirts….y did u want to join in the 1st place!!??….poor girl…i feel sorry for u…..utterly disillusioned. I hope you have a few friends.

  • 6. Tehani  |  April 2, 2007 at 4:04 pm

that’s a really bad case of sour grapes you got there. i believe you contradicted yourself many times. for instance, if it’s a club for flirts and losers and you’re OBVIOUSLY not one, then why are you so upset that you didnt get in? for that matter, why did you apply in the first place? also, if they dont want ‘pretty’ girls meeting guys, you should applaud them for not choosing you, since i can tell already that your very pretty and you would not fit in among these losers and idiot!
But, as a former interacter, (hence a loser, flirt, idiot etc) i must add that it is in fact a real, international organization, and that we do real, beneficial work. obviously you havnt understood this, and if i may be so bold as to attempt a guess, THIS is in fact why you havnt got in.

  • 7. Ma'iq the Elder  |  April 2, 2007 at 4:11 pm

My dear, you started off so promisingly and now just blew it all. This post is just why you are too young to be sharing your thoughts with the big bad world of the blogosphere…

Just think for a little longer about the term “sour grapes”.

You should think harder before you publish – you’ve just proven to me that the present generation is very much full of itself, without much reason.

  • 8. Ares  |  April 2, 2007 at 6:41 pm

    Sour grapes… boohoo… grow up!!!

  • 9. Boycy  |  April 3, 2007 at 2:00 am

hey, dont worry, i use to be in the UN and Interact, and the UN is far more cooler. forget flirting.. its a waste of time… you might as well sit back and observe the world.

  • 10. Anonymous  |  April 3, 2007 at 3:10 am

    sour grapes ftw.

  • 11. serviceunavailable  |  April 3, 2007 at 5:12 am

I recall a lot of girls like you saying the very same things AFTER they didn’t get chosen! It’s pointless making excuses, really. Does it make you feel any better?

The point is, they didn’t choose you, and they probably have a very valid reason. Please note, it’s not just the teacher who chooses would-be Interactors, there is an interview panel.

If you really want to get into this so-called ‘loser’ club, try again next year!

  • 12. Is a Bell  |  April 3, 2007 at 5:18 am

OH MY GOD!! just when i thought the blogsphere can’t get any worse!!!!
what now we have a little annoying kid wasting every1’s time too????
what the heck is interact anyway!?!?
and WHY is every1 getting so offended over some little girls sob story?!?

  • 13. Ares  |  April 3, 2007 at 5:42 am

What’s the point in scolding this poor girl when you’ve got people like Ranga in the blogshpere who actually take this things seriously and make these little kids feel more self-important than they really are… Ranga, why don’t you stop trying to blow this out of proportion. And by the way, go get yourself a real job. Interact co-ordinator??? Just when you think there are grown ups in the world…

  • 14. amused  |  April 3, 2007 at 8:31 am

you are…12? 13? please include a disclaimer in the name of your blog soon.

Also, it seems your clubs selection policy has proved itself adept this time in excluding someone clearly unsuited to represent it and your school at inter-school and larger social events. Perhaps the UN club should look in to similar interviews.

Criticism, if at all, could be leveled at the interact club for refusing people like you at the outset before referring you to councelling and character building programmes such as those they so rabidly scurry around organizing.

Forget wasting too much time on these clubs anyway kid. Spend some time in them, but more importantly take up a sport that requires both physical and mental commitment and that trains you to operate in a team under competitive circumstances. You’ll gain in only a year what you would in five from these pussy pink social networking clubs. And besides, it’ll teach you to take failure and rejection in your stride – a quality, it seems, you desperately need to inculcate soon.

  • 15. waitngforcupid  |  April 3, 2007 at 10:00 am

God. What about my freedom to speak? I just went through some other blogs and people are talking all sorts of crap and they have to get angry with me!! What have I done??? Sounds like a whole lot of flirty interactors are on Kottu!!! Please guys.. get a life. Why I tried out for the club is none of your business anyway. Whatever happened to freedom of speech? Slamdunk – you’re a punk! You think you’re a hunk but probably a skunk!!! I have many friends… i can send you a list if you like. Thanks Boycy – I know what you mean. Is o bell.. if you dont know what I’m talking about why insult me? It just shows your lack of brains. All the others who insulted me – get a life guys! seriously.

  • 16. Ranga  |  April 3, 2007 at 10:11 am

    Ares,

Are you like 15? If so then ignore this comment, otherwise I sincerely ask you to picture yourself at the age of 14…..

Were you rational? Did you analyze the situation and conclude your course of action?

Even when we grow older, it’s a proven fact that we tend to make decisions on instinct and then justify our decision with argument.

I’ve seen a lot of stubborn kids transform into true leaders when given the chance and responsibility.

This teacher in question is probably lazy or incapable of mentoring these kids. That’s what I’m worried about. With teachers like this, how can you expect a country’s future to be bright?

  • 17. shannon  |  April 3, 2007 at 10:41 am

lol im reading the comments people have left you…and ya love, maybe u do a have a case of sour grapes..lol..but then trust me, i was an interactor..and i was from a convent…and i ended up getting caught by the nuns for things i didn’t even do. so trust me…there’s no loss..and yes, Co-Mun’s also a great option.. :)

  • 18. Ares  |  April 3, 2007 at 1:01 pm

    “Slamdunk – you’re a punk! You think you’re a hunk but probably a skunk!!!”
I have a new found respect for you. Artistic.
I’m laughing so hard I’m finding it difficult to type this comment. Anyway maybe you should just admit your view on interactors is purely based on you not getting into the club. why else would you even try to get into the club in the first place? Being an Interactor when i was in school i’ll tell u one thing, it’s highly over-rated. Only a handfull of people actually care about the community. It’s mostly about making friends and improving your social life. Just forget the whole thing and concentrate on your studies.

  • 19. justmal  |  April 3, 2007 at 2:59 pm

hehhe.. interact is for ratbags and hoes?

  • 20. N  |  April 3, 2007 at 5:21 pm

wow…people chill…she’s a kid…anybody remember what that was like?! Keep blogging, forget the haters…to paraphrase Voltaire, “I could care bugger all of what ur saying, but you have all the right to say it”

Personally I used to do Interact for the girls…it seemed fun back in the day I guess.

  • 21. Is a Bell  |  April 3, 2007 at 5:31 pm

i cudn’t care less, missy. Lemme guess…u wanted 2 join this loser club in the 1st place to meet sum guy & now ur plans r ruined??? Ha ha ha. But i feel for u. There r sum really crappy blogs out there which seem 2 b doin all too well. Yours is a refreshin change i guess. So i change my mind! Keep writin! This kottu shit needs sum younger blood anyway. :-)

  • 22. Rlie!  |  April 3, 2007 at 5:33 pm

lol this is so funny! if interact is for losers why the hell did u try out? anyways dnt waste ur time being sour over stupid things, wake up and do something usefull wit ur life!

  • 23. NegligibleMinoritist  |  April 4, 2007 at 4:46 am

WFC my fingers have been twitching but I’ve held myself back from commenting. A few thoughts from a new blogger.

First while you have the freedom of speech, others have that freedom as well. So by putting your thoughts out in the blogshphere you also by default enable others to share their opinons on your thoughts. So its no point throwing a tantrum about others saying stuff etc because thats part of the whole freedom of expression thing.

Secondly Ranga, dude alllow kids to fight their own battles. Your just making a bad situation worse. Shit like this happens in life and the more adults get involved to protect kids from the realities of life the harder it is going to be when it actually happens in the real world. Its great that you are the interact bigshot but seriously what about allowing students to develop a mind of their own?

WFC read the papers, speak to a few people and maybe you will realize that this is not the biggest issue affecting people today. Also I’ve been in MUN and trust me it sucks especially when the loser organizers start putting their “oh we are so cool cuz we are from intl schools” attitude. And nothing really happens after that. Whats the point in discussing and passing resolutions on world issues if it is not followed by some sort of concrete action for change? Plus MUN is boringly nice. Personally i saw it as a major waste of my time.

But what you need to realize is that part of what is going on here is a glimpse of what its like out in the real world. Where you need to be mature to survive the shit people throw at you. So look at this as a suitable preparation for that and don’t get prissy about it.

And keep blogging please. No I’m not a saidst but another thing you will realize is that through blogging you really widen your opinons and worldview in ways that a school can’t really do. So all the best and note that i’m being constructively critical.

    Regards,

you go girl! Lay off her guys – she’s cute.

  • 25. Is a bell  |  April 4, 2007 at 7:48 am

Looky wut we hav here! Sum leches seem 2 b lustin after this poor kid. Run kid run! B4 u know it, u’ll hav sum horny uncle type stalkin u. :) And look at all them ppl givin advice and all. Negligence minority… (wutever ur name is…) u shud raise sum kids, build an orphanage, open a hotline…Do wutever…but stop hittin on a 15 yr old for christ’s sake. Sheesh.

  • 26. Negligible Minoritist  |  April 4, 2007 at 8:11 am

    Is a Bell:

Wow… What do you know the mummy type troll! And I thought just mal was interesting.

The point I make and what seems to have escaped ur negligible (yes that’s a word now run back to primary and figure it out) intelligence is that WFC or whoever shouldn’t be throwing throwing tantrums like this. Yes sour grapes and all that crap (re this post) but lets try to make sure the “younger blood” in kottu don’t get scared off by your maternal instincts as well eh?

Oh and BTW u seem to be awfully eager to protect her now… You sure she’s not some early version of yourself?

Dude come on. There’s a difference between constructive criticism and criticism for the heck of it. I see you have failed to understand that. So if you will excuse me my “hotline’s” ringing… Oh wait that’s you!

    Regards,

  • 27. reuters  |  April 4, 2007 at 9:07 am

THIS post is number one… NUMERO UNO on the kottu roll!

The wonders of the kottu world! Keep writing kid and may you always wear your heart firmly on your sleeve! It gives some of us something to have a hearty laugh at. I’m sure you’d understand what we’re on about if you were to re-read your writing in a couple of years.

Hmmm… and maybe NM should start an agony aunt blog to replace his current mediocrity. that was some good advice you dished out, bugger.

  • 28. Apoco  |  April 4, 2007 at 4:06 pm

hahaha this is just sad…ur the real loser lol. if u think interact is for losers and flirts y the hell did u apply for it in the first place? and oh well u think MUN is better? ive been in both hun and MUN sux! i was an interactor for 5 yrs and was in the district committe aswell and no teacher has the right to select who gets into the club and who doesnt. but also the district committee doesnt have the power to butt into school policies and only the rotary governor has the capacity to do that and well if u tell me ur school i shud be able to get that done! also interact goes beyond concerts and parties. its alot more like community service, IU and so on and if ur school only does concerts then ur school is screwed up! and hunny pls dont be full of ur shit cos ur luks dont matter when ur beyond 18…only naive lil 13yr olds think that everything is based on luks k! so monkey dont pls praise ur own tail! just to add a lil note today i own an event management company and im so gud @ wot i do today is cos of the experience i gained from and wot interact thought me! so pls loser! dont diss wot u cant have thats like saying the guy who u wanted to sleep with is gay when he just says “no im sorry i have a gf!” grow up now cos someday u will have to!

  • 29. Is a Bell  |  April 4, 2007 at 7:12 pm

Apoco, u sound like one of those fraternity cases who took the whole “i’m part of an important club” thing a little too seriously.
it’s so funny coz while u dis the kid abt her loser attitude…YOU go and do a publicity stunt by raving abt your SUCCESSFUL LIFE! I mean who does that???!? UNLESS, u r a pathetic loser urself who needs to talk abt himself to getover sum major insecurity problem.
I bet u hav a loser website abt urself and all ur achievements! tell us APOCO!!! how many certificates did u get when u were in kindergarten?!?! how many races did u win in 5th grade?? how much MONEY do u make??? how many gals have u laid?!??! Tell us…stun us into awe with ur resumé!!! ha ha ha

  • 30. ranil  |  April 5, 2007 at 6:07 am

is a bell…hello. nice to see you in surroundings that are, i suspect, more in keeping with your web personality. And i have to agree with you on ‘Apoco’… he/she, sounds like a jerk!

As for the general premise of this continuing discussion, i must admit that, while i was never a part of the interect social scene, except for a breif and memorable few minutes, i can undestand the fact of someone of younger years being eager to be a part of such a circle, and being sour at any such rejection. All i can say to you WFC is, dont worry to much about it, it may seem to be a big issue now to you,it will pass, and you will move on. Interect is not everything. (i always feel shit giving advice like this, ‘cos it dosent really do much help, but i continue to do so, for some unknown, subliminal reason)Anyways i wish you all the best with the MUN, i was a part of it for a breif period as well, and while my experiences with it were way to minimal to justify it as being either good or bad, i’m sure it can be either to you, depending on the people who take art, and how you take to them. All the best

  • 31. Is a Bell  |  April 5, 2007 at 6:32 am

Ranil, u actually sound like a sweet person when u rn’t surrounded by the “macho boys who back u up” in other blogs. pity.

  • 32. ranil  |  April 5, 2007 at 6:55 am

Dear Is a bell, if you read my previous postings on other bolgs, you can see for yourself that not many of those “macho boys” actually backed me up:) but thank you.

  • 33. fanny  |  April 5, 2007 at 9:34 am

is a bell… i knew you wanted ranil from the beginning!!! slut!!!

  • 34. Uncle Disco  |  April 5, 2007 at 10:35 am

Ranil… don’t you dare steal Uncle Disco’s object of affection! Fanny, please keep your man in check :-)

Regarding the post, Uncle Disco feels we should all cut WTF some slack. It’s good to let all these emotions hang out, not just for freedom of expression, but psychologically. It’s part of growing up.

Overreacting is no help at all, particularly with Interact Co-ordinators (good grief) and Event Managers muscling their way into the murky depths of this stew.

WTF, please keep on writing. The blogosphere would be better off with more contributions from young people.

  • 35. ranil  |  April 5, 2007 at 10:48 am

Dear Disco, Fanny, Is a bell, i came into the blogsphere with the purest of intentions, and i hope that none of my actions can be construed as ever deviating from the purest principles of my initial intentions. I blog, and come only TO blog.

As for WTF, i agree with you Disco, unless of course this post is actually written by some middle aged, sexually confused, dirty old man (which i am sure some of you there think we are!)

i also wish to extend my encouragements to her. Keep writting girl.

And on a more introspective point of veiw, i think the musings of a teen, in which the hopes and petty fears of that age are lived in front of our own eyes, can afford us with a mirrow into our own growing up phase of many a year ago, as well us afford us with an oppotunity to dispel what ever limited wisdom we have.

    WTF, you have been warned

  • 36. cupid  |  April 5, 2007 at 1:27 pm

aww now why do you mean people refer to her as WTF? It’s WFC, she’s Waiting For Cupid.

  • 37. reuters  |  April 5, 2007 at 3:33 pm

WTF Cupid! Let us have some fun for crying out loud! Be it at the expense of a 14 yo but still… it has some yields limited and fleeting joy

  • 38. Ram  |  April 7, 2007 at 2:12 am

I normally log on to kottu for some insightful stuff on politics or cricket or something to do with this war.. well kind off hit a whirlwind here i guess.

this blog has been kind of popular.. i guess for all the right and wrong reasons. :) it looks too much like the real world.. ppl bullying a person, and then u have others who band together in support of the Supposed “Victim/Hero” .. very intriguing stuff…

i guess i too am proof of the new generation of lankans… we may be in the online world.. but our penchant to keep yapping abt frivolous crap wud have a lot of ppl amazed.. so as an insider looking from the outside.. i must say this is on hell of a sociology study :) as for the girl who started it all… ur entitled to ur opinions and dont let the world tell u otherwise.. save this post to read after 5 more years… i guess u myt have a different perspective then… peace to all of u..

  • 39. sittingnut  |  April 9, 2007 at 3:59 pm

    clever.
but may be a little too clever and obvious.

  • 40. humanity  |  April 17, 2007 at 7:57 am

hi WFC.. although i am one of ur strong supporters, i must disagree with u on this one.. i myself was never an interact club member (we never had such a club in r school but that’s beside the point hehehe)Anyways it does sound like ur going thru a case of the sour grapes here my dear… it’s natural to feel that way but go easy on those people who r in the club… i myself have heard many stories about these clubs and their ulterior motives, but m nobody to talk abt it coz i rele dnt no what goes on in the interact club… anyways all the best with the UN club…

    cheers!

  • 41. humanity  |  April 17, 2007 at 8:09 am

just a small msg for APOCO, u advised this kid about a monkey praising his/her own tail… but dude (or dudet *grin*) u just praised ur own tail by talking abt ur oh so successful life… dnt be a jerk… she’s only 14.. what’s the matter with most of u! Gosh have a heart.. ever heard of constructive critisism…

  • 42. shiwanthi  |  June 26, 2007 at 5:54 am

oh puleeease.. u are such an annoying whiney brat.. thats probably why they didnt choose u… ever thought about why the teacher doesnt like u.. probably for the same reason i just pointed out..
i was in interact for quite a long time.. and joined projects are usually for the betterment of the community so.. u really have no idea what ur talking about except for ur apparent modesty about ur own good looks.. please.. who in their righht minds praises themselves while dissing half the population of ur school.. ur just angry that ur frnds got in and u didnt.. just suck it up and congradulate them.. they obviously have something u dont!!

  • 43. belle  |  July 16, 2007 at 9:05 am

Personally I’ve always been a believer that ur responsible for whatever interact offers..same with the UN you might think its a white elephant bt there are ppl actually work in there believing in a cause..same with interact.I knw rejection can b hard babe bt u cant jst say its all stupid cz u nvr gt chosen..hypocrasy nvr goes down with anyone as you can see..
